First Cache Find of 2010
Having rushed on 31 December to make my Geocaching target of 200 finds I set myself a target of at least 200 caches for 2010. Since then I revised that to aim for 400 this year. To find 400 caches means an average of 34 a month for the next 12 months.
Holy Carp! It’s 22 January and I have found a grand total of one cache. Tonight. As my lovely wife was making the dinner the Blackberry pinged. At 7.30 on Friday evening it was unlikely to be anyone from work so I looked. Sure enough there was a new cache published, and only 1.6 miles (as the crow flies). Graham’s Pubs & Clubs 1 is down near my work and an area I know fairly well.
Within 5 minutes I was driving down the road, GPS navigating, pen and torch in pocket. Absolutely no trouble finding the cache, even in the dark. Apparently I beat another local cacher by about three minutes and a third by not much more. Sorry Bernie and Simon! I had Twittered my find about a minute after finding and before driving away and I had a very quick response!
The most remarkable thing was the fantastic Help For Heroes Geocoin I found in the cache. I have heard of them but not seen one in the flesh:

It’’s bloody huge and very very heavy! It has to be around 3 inches across. I will (obviously) place this traveller into another cache but I have to find one of these for my (currenlty small!) collection
