Following lots of upset, all centred around wordpress.com I moved the blogs that I want to keep away from wordpress.com.
The only thing that’s kept my account over there active is the Akismet anti-spam plugin that requires the wordpress.com API key to work.
Well, thanks to Adam over at archGFX I have now deactivated and removed the Akismet plugin.
Shock horror! What the hell am I doing? Running without a spam filter? Don’t be bloody stupid!
Adam recommended Defensio. Actually, he said “seriously, Defensio FTW.”
So I did. And now I can backup the post data from cornell.wordpress.com and then delete the account.
By the way, I did vote in the Crunchies as mentioned in my last post. I voted for Feedburner (RSS) and Slide.com (online slideshows). I’ve used both and they rock.
Also made me laugh that the Crunchies website is running MediaTemple…
Thanks for the heads up on Defensio; I dumped Akisment a few days ago and was wondering what to replace it with.
I did have to chuckle, though, when their account activation email got caught in Google’s spam filter!

Cornell,
I think you will be happy with Defensio. Although I’ve only had it installed for a few days it has been working flawlessly for me.
Defensio is working very well on my blog.
