Well, yes actually. Late as usual I have just found out that Catherine Tate is going to be in the whole of the fourth series of Doctor Who.
I watched the first few episodes of series three and then got a life. My Dad (I hope) has recorded all of them so I can watch them later. Freema Agyeman did a great job as Freema in the episodes I watched but she’s going to be in the first three episodes of the new series of Torchwood.
Replacing Freema with Donna (Tate) as the long term companion, in my humble opinion is the wrong choice. Donna is far too much like Tate’s other characters from her own show. While I can’t remember the names of the characters (I didn’t like her show!), I caught a few bits and can see too many similarities with Donna. I wasn’t especially fond of Donna in the Christmas special she was in either for exactly the same reason.
There are so many talented actors and actresses in the UK that Dr Who’s producers could have used instead. The show (in my mind) has always used the lesser known talent (Ace for example – hubba!) and to bring in Catherine Tate might just kill series five for me.
I hope it doesn’t, but it might.
