If you’re ever so slightly geeky like me, this will be fascinating. Just look at the amount of work that has gone into building this machine. It’s got a great and relaxing rythm too.

Brad – Quite simply, It’s awesome! How long did it take to construct?
The design phase took about a week, as I recall. I do most of my design on the computer, using a 3D modeling/animation package. Actual construction took another month. After a year on site, however, I wasn’t happy with the reliablity, which was hampered by two factors: 1. not being varnished, changes in humidity played havoc with the tight tolerance mechanisms, and 2. a tight timing design didn’t allow for a wide variation in transit times between the cones and the loading gates.
So, I brought it back into the shop, last summer, varnished it, and added an indexing mechanism at the gates, so that a ball would always ready to load on time. Consequently, instead of circulating six balls, it uses fourteen, and works much better.
