New Look

After reading Andreas Viklund’s blog a few days ago he mentioned that he’d managed to sell the Anvish theme that I was using. I emailed him to ask if it was ok to keep using it or if he would prefer me to remove it. He very kindly allowed me to keep using the theme with the proviso that I remove the references to the original theme name. That worked for me. For about five minutes unfortunately.

I really liked the theme, but there were a couple of limitations that I just couldn’t live with any more. I really wanted a variable width theme and I wanted something darker. I think that photos display better with a black or dark grey background. This theme is called Gun Metal and as you can see is very very dark.

I know that some will really like this while others will declare it as a BTOD and never visit the blog again. Ho hum, their loss! In the state it’s in I rather like this theme. I want to fix the size of the blockquote as it’s huge at the moment but I will run with this for a while and see how it goes. I might also reduce the size of the font in the sidebar.

I prefer this, nice job. I see what you mean about the photos on a black background – a change simliar to this on my site is needed now!

I think the main text colour might need to come up a tad. It’s grey on black at the moment and I find myself squinting to read it. The text also displays in different sizes in different browsers so I may have to investigate that too. I’m pretty much happy with this as it site though. :)

I think that the previous theme looked better. The text in this theme is way to dark, it gets really hard to read. But with that said, if it works for you, then don’t listen to what other people say. :)

Did you consider using Andreas’ variable-width and dark version of the Anvish design at all? Like the other Anvish-based new themes it has not yet been released, but I know that Andreas is pushing it out to a few betatesters so I am curious to know what you think of it.
