W Bloggar
Reading through the forum over at wordpress.com, Podz mentioned a cracking little application that will allow the user to compose a post offline and save it for publishing later.
The application is called W Bloggar. This can be used (for example) if you’re on the road with your laptop, no internet connection and you feel the desperation to write for your blog.
The usual way to write a post offline is:
1. Write the post in Notepad, try to remember the correct markup for an HREF link, or the URL for an image,
2. Save the file.
3. Lose the file.
4. Rewrite the post.
5. Find the original text file.
6. Connect to the net and your blog.
7. Start a new post.
8. Copy and paste the content of either text file from 2 or 4 above into the “Write post” window.
9. Lose the internet connection and start again at 6.
10. Publish the post.
11. Edit the post and correct all the bad HTML markup that’s screwing with your theme.
Long winded isn’t it. The alternative is to use W Bloggar. It’s a small download (about 6mb – nothing if you’re on broadband!), install and set up the blog account within W Bloggar. All you really need to know is the location of your xmlrpc.php file, URL of your blog, account name and password. This bit is best done when you’re connected to the net. The app will then pick up your current categories from your blog.
Then, it’s a case of putting a title in, writing the post and saving it for publishing later. See, no need to be on the ‘net, HTML is done for you and you get to save the post with the title you gave it earlier. You can create as many as you want, save them and publish them next time you have an active internet connection. You don’t even even a browser open! The application even does spell checking, so there’s no reason AT ALL to get it wrong!
This very post has been created with W Bloggar and you can see that it simply “works”. Nice job! I would recommend that anyone give this a go. It’s so much easier than having to sit using TinyMCE (The Wordpress Rich Text Editor) or the plain text editor interface.
The Blog Review » Testing the W Bloggar Remote Posting on June 2nd, 2006
[...] EDIT: After trying this here I also made a post over at my main blog. I find that the best way to try an application is to review it. so I did. You can read the review here. The only downside I can see for wp.com users is the image upload function. It works a treat on self-hosted blogs, but it requires FTP access to the servers. Unfortunately we don’t have this functionality at wp.com so you’ll still need to upload the image manually. [...]
