Suzuki No Go

We’ve been playing with the GS for a few days now, trying different bits and pieces to get the thing to run before strip down for the chop build:

  • Battery has been charged – we’re now getting 13.2 volts on the multimeter.
  • Old and crappy fuel has been drained from the tank and the carbs.
  • New unleaded fuel into the tank
  • A small amount of fuel straight into the chambers
  • Starting with choke and without
  • remove the carb and see if anything is blocking the system

Unfortunately nothing has so far worked and the bike still will not run. There has been some question over whether the fuel tap is on or off, but we think we’ve figured that…

Having spoken to the previous owner’s mechanic (his Dad!), he reckons that there will probably be some fuel “gunge” build up in the float chambers on the carbs. When we removed the carbs today it was the top end and not the bottom. Although I took the cover off the float chamber I didn’t really want to go any further. It looks like the carbs will be coming off again tomorrow and the float chambers will be stripped (carefully!) and cleaned. We’ll see where it goes from there.

More updates to follow…
