Something Dropped Through
My letterbox today.
It was a letter from my bank asking me to phone them as soon as possible. Apparently, yesterday I spent £10.00 on an item at an “Electrical Store”. The letter was from the fraud department, so naturally I grabbed the phone and called them.
Following the usual we’re very busy messages I got to speak to someone who confirmed all my details and then asked me if I had bought anything around £10.00 at 9.30 yesterday morning. Well, I was at work at 9.30 and I try not to surf in work time so the answer was obviously “No”.
We then went through all the purchases on my card from the middle of February until yesterday. Thanks god there was no Ann Summers or similar purchases!
The end result seems to be that someone has used my card number to try and purchase something from an “Electrical Store”. Unfortunately the lady at the bank had no more details for what the purchase was. It has been stopped and my card has been cancelled. I have cut the card up and put it in the bin.
I then asked how long it would take to get a new card to me.
“Oh, seven to ten days sir” was the reply.
Bugger! Well, I really can’t complain. The same day that the attempted purchase was made they picked it up and stopped it. It could have been much much worse! I used the card last week while I was in Manchester. I shopped at HMV, WH Smith, Marks & Spencer, Millets and obviously paid for the hotel. I haven’t used the card online for over a week so I can only assume it was one of them.
Still sucks though. If I want money I’ve got to go to the bank now :(
