Look What I Got!

Canon Digital Ixus 55There are a few occasions when you just shop on the spur of the moment. I’m no different. I have been looking for a compact camera that I can carry on the bike, the 10d is great, but so damned bulky! Sunday lunchtime I was surfing eBay (dangerous!) when I saw a Canon Digital Ixus 55 for great money. It retails at £299 and needless to say that I paid nothing like that! It’s about the size of a credit card and approximately 1cm thick. A few of the specs for the camera:

  • 5.0 MP CCD
  • 3x optical zoom with UA lens
  • DIGIC II and iSAPS
  • 2.5″ LCD with wide viewing angle
  • 15 shooting modes
  • VGA movies at 30 fps
  • PictBridge and Print/Share button
  • USB 2.0 Hi-Speed

And oh, man is it sweet! There’s no shutter delay at all, the flash, although not the most powerful is certainly adequate for snap-shotting, and the 2.5″ screen is just superb. Here’s the first three photos I took. Clicking them will bring up a new window:

Bear in mind that compression for the web means you won’t see full quality, but, believe me – they are fantastic quality. Just a shame about the crap photographer. Now, what what’s Donncha’s web site? Oh yeah. Looks like I’ve got some work to do…

  1. Sweet looking camera. I’ve got a 350D (and a 50E) as well as a little Olympus thing for quick use. Definitely the lowest common denominator is me… but the Olympus did a pretty good job in Ireland :)
